FAQs

SERVICE AND GENERAL INFORMATION

  • 1. What guarantee do I have on my watch?

    Warranty conditions

Our two-year manufacturer's warranty is valid throughout Germany independently of the statutory warranty. Within the warranty period, we grant free repairs or adjustments in the event of complications with the movement, case and metal straps, provided the watch has been operated in accordance with the instructions.

No guarantee is granted in the following cases, even if they occur within the guarantee period:

No guarantee is given on technical wearing parts that are subject to a normal ageing process such as the mainspring (only for mechanical watches), crowns, pushers, case barrel, bottom seals, glass seals due to water resistance. All seals are wearing parts and can harden and lose their function after only one year. Please also refer to the question "Is my watch waterproof?".

Furthermore, we do not grant a guarantee for typical signs of wear. This includes leather straps, glass, case and bezel damage, as long as this is not a manufacturer's fault, as well as damage caused by the customer. This includes, for example, consequential damage caused by impact and shock.

Defective watches outside the warranty period and damage caused by the customer are subject to a charge. You will receive a cost estimate before the repair. If the repair or the cost estimate is rejected, we will charge a flat-rate fee of € 29. This flat rate does not apply if the repair is used.

The warranty certificate must be presented in order to make a claim under the warranty. Please send this to our service department together with the invoice and a description of the fault. Please enclose the purchase receipt and the separate warranty certificate filled out with article no. and serial no. (see bottom embossing).

  • 2. How can I care and clean my watch?

Fingerprints and other dirt can be removed with a soft cloth.

Please bear in mind that mechanical and automatic watches are sensitive to shocks and must therefore be protected from impacts and strong vibrations (e.g. from impact sports).

In order to guarantee optimum accuracy with mechanical watches, you should wind the watch to a medium spring tension before wearing it.

Please do not wind the watch all the way up, as this could damage it. Please do not wear your watch to swim in the sea or to take a shower or bath. Salt water, detergents and UV radiation destroy the seals of the glass, back and crown. If your watch does come into contact with these liquids, please rinse the watch immediately with clean water

  • 3. How long does a leather strap last and how can I care for it?

As a natural product, even very high-quality leather, such as we use for our straps, is exposed to environmental influences and thus to the ageing process. It makes sense to take off watches with leather straps before showering or swimming, as this significantly reduces the life of the strap. However, regular care of the strap can protect the leather for longer. It can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a special leather cleaner. It is important to let the leather strap dry slowly afterwards and not to expose it to heat (hairdryer, heater).

  • 4. Are all POINTTEC watches "MADE IN GERMANY"?

Each of our watches is a quality product MADE IN GERMANY. Our goal is to offer our customers the highest quality, coupled with a distinctive and sophisticated design at an affordable price.

  • 5. Where can I get an instruction manual for my watch?

On our website, when you call up your watch model, there is a note next to each model with "Download instructions". Here you can view the instructions for use.

  • 6. Ho can I recevie a catalogue?

Any of our authorised dealers will be happy to provide you with a catalogue if you ask for one at a sales outlet. Otherwise, you can also fill in the contact form on our website with the appropriate reference.

  • 7. Is my watch water resistant?

Yes, all our watches are waterproof. However, to a different extent depending on the watch model. Information about the water resistance can be found on the case back. The designation "water resistant" is usually supplemented by a pressure indication of e.g. 10 bar/10 atm.

    Tabelle-poittec

The information on water tightness refers to the time of testing. The seals can partially lose their elastic properties over time due to disturbing factors (sun, shower gel, salt water, sweat). Impacts against the crown or pushers can also affect the water resistance. Therefore, water resistance cannot be guaranteed indefinitely.

To be on the safe side, you should have your watch checked annually for water resistance. In addition, you should avoid bringing a heated watch into contact with liquids (e.g. going into the water after sunbathing), as this abruptly changes the pressure ratio in the watch and moisture can be drawn in.

  • 8. What core is used for production?

For our watches, we use only quality cores from renowned Swiss and Japanese manufacturers for both quartz and mechanical core. For quartz watches, we use cores from the Swiss manufacturers ETA and Ronda. In the mechanical sector, the cores come from the renowned manufacturers ETA, Sellita (both Switzerland) and the Japanese manufacturers Miyota and Seiko (both Japan).

  • 9. Which glasses are used for the production of the watches?

We use only K1 safety glass, hesalite glass and sapphire glass for our production. This allows us to offer our customers high resistance to scratching. Please note that strong impacts can damage the glasses, dials or movements.

  • 10. How long can I expect the luminous components of the watch to glow?

We only use the best material on the market for the luminous paint. The advantage is that it is non-radioactive and non-toxic. It also allows the charging and discharging process to be repeated at will. The luminous period is approx. 6-10 hours in normal daylight.

  • 11. What is the difference between the terms "chronograph" and "chronometer"?

A watch is called a "chronograph" if it has a stopwatch function in addition to the current time measurement. The term "chronograph" must not be confused with the term "chronometer", which is a quality award for a watch that has been officially tested for particularly high accuracy. This watch does not have to have a stop function (see also accuracy).

All watches offered by us as chronometers are tested and certified by the Glashütte Observatory chronometer testing centre according to the strict criteria of DIN 8319. This means that each watch is delivered with an individual certificate including the test values. To obtain the coveted certificate, the watches are tested in the five positions "crown left", "crown top", "crown bottom", "dial top" and "dial bottom" in a 15-day test procedure. The average daily rate must be between -4 and +6 seconds, with the average daily rate deviation not exceeding two seconds and the largest rate deviation not exceeding five seconds. All watches are tested at temperatures of 23°C, 8°C and 38°C and at a humidity of approx. 50%. Thus, all our chronometers are a guarantee for the highest rate accuracy and watchmaking art at world level.

  • 12. What is the difference between mechanical watches and quartz watches?

Mechanical watches are powered by cores that use a mainspring as a force or energy storage device. Hand-wound cores must be wound by hand using the crown. In automatic movecoresents, the winding is done by a rotor that is set in rotation by the coresof the wearer's arm. The period of time during which the automatic watch continues to run without being moved is called the power reserve. This ensures that the watch does not stop overnight.

The second hand moves in small steps (usually 4-5) until it reaches the next second segment. The majority of quartz watches draw their energy from batteries that have to be replaced after certain periods of time. In contrast to a mechanical watch, the second hand moves in leaps and bounds to the next second segment.

  • 13. What is the accuracy of my watch?

The rate accuracy is given as the time deviation within a certain period of time. The rate deviations vary depending on the movement and its price. The majority of mechanical watches have an average accuracy tolerance of - 10 / + 30 seconds per day. Quartz watches have an average rate accuracy of between -0.5 to +0.7 seconds per day.
